East Midlands Today just showed one of the presenters in the door of one, presumably at Bruntingthorpe unless there's old busses stored on the pans at Brize as well!

It feels so srange to hear of these VC-10s landing for the last time, I currently watch them at work leaving from their majors, all pristine and ready for another few years. In fact XR807 was here recently for minor work.
Unfortunately the majors end in December of this year, meaning a 350+ jobs will go at St Athan, the minors are chalked in for another three or so years. |

If there was any sense in the world the RAF would be operating A330 tankers already and utilizing an existing workforce rather than PFI .

VC10’s XV109 and XR807 were retired to Bruntingthorpe earlier today. Below is some of my photos and video…

Good film, Thanks for posting it. Sad to see these two making their last flight though but it's good to know they will get preserved. (Assuming that's whats happening to them). I'll have to get down to Brunty to have a look at them. besides I got promised a guided tour of the Guppy that I'm keen to take up.
Regards. |

I would imagine they will be quickly stripped of spares...

According to the guy's at Bruntingthorpe I spoke to today they are definately being broken up for spares and scrap. One of future arrivals may be preserved.

Any chance the remaining fuel could be donated to the ground taxiiable jets?

With the state of UK plc’s finances no doubt every last drop of fuel will be drained to keep the RAF operational!
![]() Whilst on finances has anyone heard whispers of what the VC10s, or for that matter the Nimrods that are going into preservation are fetching?

i watch these videos.
and its enough to make me weep, .. i know you cant save em all, its a shame everything is about money these days, not a rant, just seems that way, especially when you don't have much in the way of money, I wonder apart from the modern electrical instrumentation added in recent years to the VC10 , just what usable spares there will be, ??, even the cockpits, to strip them down in a few days to a bare shell, which could take many a year for a museum to rebuild, seems so harsh, still its the way of the world i suppose ![]() heres a vid of the vc10 first flight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf_MO...eature=related and one of her in her heyday.. with BOAC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlWjq_eyBcw and lastly the men who built them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Zs6...eature=related I salute the old bird .. ![]()

Can anybody confirm or deny the rumour I have just heard, that the Duxford Super VC10 has failed a health & safety review & may be scrapped.
I sincerely hope that this is not the case, for this or any other airliner displayed at Duxford. I realise that the RAF will be able to donate VC10's in the near future but it was a commercial airliner first & foremost, especially the Super model.

Thanks for that Archer, I have a horrible feeling that the bit I want would be considered an asset to be returned for service!
