Norwich. More Dash 8's and friends !

More Norwich movements from today. First G-PTHA emerged from Air Livery as SX-OBA.

Next G-JECV arrived to take the next spray slot, to emerge soon as SX-BIT.

One of the locals based with Saxon Air.

I presume this is Netjets ? a regular user.

And finaly one of the many regulars arriving.

Great pics Keith, the Saab 2000 is stunning. Sad to see JECV go, no more flying her . She lands like a shopping trolley anyway

Deano. Just love your descriptions of the landing qualities of the Dash 8, from my last two posts, we have had "garden shed" and "shopping trolley" so I rather assume it is exciting ... ish ???

threedeltamax. Thank you for your comment, the blue line going forward below the aircraft also has a green outline below the cockpit area, seen better in the photo below, Is it just me or are there more 'olympic rings' on the vertical stabiliser ???? or is that just an age thing ????

Keith.

Exciting it certainly is. If you imagine what a shopping trolley or a garden shed landing on a runway would feel like with no wheels along with the associated noises then that's the best descriptions I can come up with
Unless it's a wet runway or you "get a good one" then most landings are not good. Very often we get told some passengers scream on touchdown
The problem with it is the landing gear struts, they are very stiff and have no sideways give in them, so if you are not perfectly straight then she'll "snap" straight should you be on the scew as she grips the tarmac giving a horrible shaking and crunching feeling. Because the Dash is a long aircraft it is very difficult get her straight every time. Also when the runways are wet she generally lands perfectly, this is because if you are on a scew the aircraft will "slide" straight as it touches down so there is no crunch feeling.
Another issue with her is power, those 4.11m diam props give alot of lift over a large portion of the wing, so if you come in right on Vref and then reduce the power she'll fall out the sky and crunch down.

Deano. Thank you for your insight into 'the splashdown' maybe in future I should point my lens toward the point of touchdown ? but only if you promise to touchdown on the threshold of 27 and suffer the longer taxy run

Keith.

tdm

Mate if I'm honest I can't remember, I'll get the AOM out and have a look when I get home tomorrow.

Keith, that may be a bit tricky, I haven't hit the touchdown zone in years
Since we started to fly Exeter - Norwich from April I've only ever done it once, I'll forewarn you when I have it on my roster again, maybe you can forewarn the residents for me
