Maybe mods were pi$$ed off because of multiplied post. However, I like the expression "fractal camo" you used much more than the word "digital".

it looks very cool ! the Fulcrum is probably the most attractive of fighters, and this scheme really looks good..but does the digital pattern break up the shape better than a regular curve based camos?

I seriously doubt it. The pattern definately breaks up distinctive features within the aircraft's surface, but it doesn't do that any better than any other multi-colored pattern. With the distances involved in aerial combat (let's say 300m and more), the human eye won't be able to distinguish between the sharp, edgy digital pattern and a more traditional 'organically' shaped camo pattern.

As I've said in another thread, it's fashion. And for this once, it's a trend i strongly support!

I saw this a thought... "Wow, those old birds REALLY clean up nicely with a fresh coat of paint." Then I saw the smoke spewing from the engines in the flight pics and thought "Nope. Never mind." Those things smoke about as much as an old J79.

Very nice pics and camo. Though I dont see the usefulness of that camo apart from the cool looks of course.
And that ceremony would have been as cool as the digital camo if they had used white/blue/red smoke, instead of black only.

Now how the hell is someone supposed to paint a model of that Slovakian MiG-29 now??? Its about as impossible as the old Viggen splinter scheme! It does look cool though...

Love the camo and the planes look great in that massed formation. However, the smokey engines makes me want to wipe my screen with a cloth to clean it.

So countries still believe in the validity of the dogfight, then?

Still, I suppose your idea makes some sense; I was under the impression that it the same logic behind the US Army's new pixelated camo.

But would a missile's sensors care if the plane is all pixel-y? I mean, could it confuse an IR missile, or something?

yeah, if you are going to upgrade a fulcrum the first thing you need to do is pop out those smokey old RD-33's and stick in the new SeaWasp engines, but this upgrade was done on the cheap and mostly involved sticking in a few bits of Western avionics to make these birds NATO "compliant."

To be a little nice to the RD-33 the engine smokes like crazy at low speed but the faster you go the less of a problem the smoke becomes.

Good photos, just a pity the digital cam makes it look as though it was made from mismatched lego bricks.

I heard the people that brought us Lego star wars and Lego Indiana Jones is in search of a new project, maybe their next game can be Lego Lock-on?

Nice pics.

BUT I wonder what the point of spending any money/effort on any camouflage scheme for Mig-29s when all an opponent needs to do is look for the trails of thick black smoke?
