Thumbs up Booker Spitfire Mk.1 AR213 G-AIST (merged)

She made two fights today with Jonathan Whaley at the controls.
There seemed to be a bit filming going on too (restoration DVD maybe?) and some air to air with a Harvard.
All good stuff.

Great news, congratulations to everyone involved. I have to say it's good to see a freshly restored Spit flying in primer with its G-reg plastered all over it, it's reminiscant of the 'old days' of the 80's and 90's. Very retro

I agree - thats the way they should look on first flights.

Great to see her back.

Thumbs up The world now has 45 Spitfires capable of flight...

If indeed I'm correct and PL344 was the 44th!

Great news, & congrats to all at PPS.

And thanks for posting the pictures Keith.

She looks great now she's back in 'stock' MKI condition.

Cheers

Paul

so of the airworthy spits we now have a I, II, V, VIII, IX, XI, XIV,XVI,XVIII and XIX, with a mk XXII waiting in the wings and also a swedish IV project if i'm correct!!!

Is there any other marks of spit which are intended to be put back into the skies?

Well done to all involved - she looks great! Will we see her with the bounce markings on?

Don't forget the Seafire XVII...

Hopefully we still have a Spitfire XII, Seafire's II(?), III, XV, 46 to see - maybe be one day. What a fantastic line up that would be, all in Mk number order...

That's pretty representative of all the marks though isn't it? I.E. the ones put into service rather than the transient development marks? I need a Mark to tell me...

ah yes the 47!

It would be nice to see a VI and VII available but unfortunately only a single VII survives, unless anyone knows of any others?

Would also be nice to see a 21 in the flying line up. There are a few of them around - does anyone know if there are any plans to try to get some 'air' under one of them in the future?

Sorry to sound like a complete nonce, but was this the MK. 1 that was airworthy a few years ago, or is this a totally new restoration? If so does that mean there are now 2 MK. 1s in the UK?

Thumbs up

Rossistb, this Spitfire is AR213 a Westland built Mark Ia. It is the same Spitfire that was owned by the late Patrick Lyndsay and the late Victor Gauntlett. She is now owned by Sheringham Aviation and operated by Tony Bianchi's Personal Plane Services at Wycombe Air Park (Booker). She has just emerged from a very indepth rebuild (started around 1999?)to an original Mark Ia spec, this involved undoing the many modifications that had been added to the airframe over it's very active life.
The last I heard was that she was to wear 57 OTU. codes and colour scheme circa late 1941 but not in the red, white and blue nosed "Bounce Scheme."
My own reaction to this news is BLOODY FANTASTIC !!!! well done Tony and all the P.P.S. team.

Both - it was airworthy some years ago but has had a complete restoration.

An excellent achievement after such a comprehensive overhaul, well done to all involved.
Not sure about the font style on the registration, is it authentic to 1941?
