What movie is this for? Can't say i remember hearing about a film featuring three Nieuports, but if it's got such beautiful aircraft like that it should be good!

There was talk of some of Kermit Weeks' WW1 kites coming to the UK recently...

Nah, if I said I had recognised the grass, that would have given it away!
By the clues, I guess it's at Newport!! ![]()

Which way did Major Duckie, the camp spy, go to the secret airfield???
He wended his way over there I believe... |

The movie being filmed at present, as I understand it, is called "Flyboys" and covers the Lafayette Escadrille during early WW1, starring Jean Reno and James Franco.

It probably is not even a secret anyway, but nobody wants to be the first to break ranks!
It also allows one to adopt the very superior attitude of 'knowing something that you don't know' . |

It's completely impossible nowadays to keep anything secretive. Chatting to the service guys at Halton today - the film crew have created a very good set there. Imcluded in this is two Bessoneau and a number of mess tents.

News from the Front!
There is a World War One set on the airfield with various cardboard cut outs of WW1 types but SIX flyable Nieuport replicas, five of which have arrived in a crate from the US and the other one was UK sourced. They are using a Piper Cub as a camera ship. The rest of the Nieuports are being assembled in the Halton Flying Club Hanger and will be airtested within a matter of days. Also there is a flying Bristol Fighter, but not sure of the status of this. Apparently, my sources say that once filming is complete the aircraft will be dissembled & scrapped! They are all powered by a 105 HP Volkswagen engine.

Isn't the English language great, you can say one thing and it can mean something completely different. Thanks for the info.

Just paid a visit, also present in the hangar are The Shuttleworth Collection's Bristol Fighter and Bleriot, as well as the 3 Nieuports, the Strutter (still being reassembled, there's a mockup for in cockpit shots) and another Sopwith which I was told is owned by someone in this country. Think it might have been a Pup.

Why on earth would they be scrapped?! I cannot see that happening somehow. Are they scared someone is going to remake the film?
