Hello Ron,

Many thanks for the reply, it's nice to hear from other aviation artists.

I agree Charles is up there with the best, and he has helped me with a number of issues about my own work.

I think you will agree the way Charles shows the use of light is his pictures is truly wonderful.

Maybe we can pass comment on each others work?..

Best wishes,

Martin.

Aviation Art - latest work

I will add my latest effort and the link from the previous thread that Yak 11 Started - its quite download intensive as lots of good images

http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/sho...t=aviation+art

The 17 is one my friend Earl flew in " Hard Luck " - she flew with the 100th BG from Thorpe Abbotts until she was shot down May 7th 44 ,fortunately Earl finished his tour a few days earlier on this plane -

Her last two digits were 13 and she arrived at TA on the 13th also and Earl's crew was no 13 - Hence the name

Yes Charles Thompson does make an amazing impression of light -he has a book out called Wings which is sometimes available off e bay

Kind Regards Ron

Hello Ron,

Many thanks again for the reply.

I love your B17, very good work indeed. I like the colour cast which give a nice sence of mood. Are you a member of the Guild of Aviation Artists.?

Charles does have a masterful touch with the lighting.

You can view some of my stuff here. I don't mind any type of feedback,

Hi Marty

Good to see you here too, I quite agree with you both Charles Thompson is one of the best and has a fantastic feel for light and the more unusual settings.
love the painting Ron, very emotional subject,
I have attached a profile that I have recently been asked to produce to remember a sadly lost crew of 207 squadron which I believe is being presented on May 8th in Belgium.

Hi Marty et al--

Canada calling...and your ref to Charles Thompson caught my attention. I also know Charles, via his membership in the Canadian Aviation Artists' Association (he belongs to ASAA too--I think he's the only artist who is a member of all three organizations, or at least held that distinction recently). He often makes the trek to the CAAA conferences and does presentations at most of them...the treatment of light in paintings being a key topic most times, as has been mentioned. His 19 Sqn Spitfire Mk.I that was in the '03 CAvM Artflight exhibition is still one of my all-time favourite works from those shows. Beautiful work.

I also belong to CAAA and have had paintings in Artflight occasionally, but view aviation art as a hobby (for now, anyway). Would like to post one or two of the better images here--I suspect there are quite a few brush-wielders on FP who could offer valuable appraisal--but in fact I've no way (yet) of doing so. I will, though, if I find a way! In the meantime--very pleased to see this topic crop up here, and look forward to further discussion.

Cheers

Steve Tournay

Charles T

Thanks Marty and Steve - Charles is also a Member of the Manchester Aviation Art Society of which I am Vice President - he is a very avid promoter and innovator in aviation art circles - he is also a member of the EAA Art Scholarship i think

He is a great inspiration and I wish his work was more widely recognised
I am not a menber of the Guild yet but maybe one day soon I will be
