I spent 2 weeks at North Luffenham on summer camp with the Air Cadets. It was the summer 1976. I remember the NAFFI, water shortages, Midland Radar on its tower and the sound of the turtable. The first time I used an SLR, and exersises at night on the old airfield. Also a long road march. Part of that route would be now under Rutland water, as I remember huge walking cranes excavating away.
No connection with air defence I'm afraid, the Bloodhound was on the gate at RAF North Luffenham where I spent a few beery years in the late 70s / early 80s..
I LIKE YOUR BLOODHOUND, ANY CONNECTION WITH AIR DEFENCE YOURSELF?
