Dave, Ive looked at my Kite records. C/N355A built by Slingsby with non metallic control system for RAF. 5.5.40 To SDF Christchurch june 1940.. It may have carried makings '5' Dave
Dave Just looked at your Christchurch site. The Slingsby Kirby Kite 1 you have listed was not at Christchurch. BGA400 is not the radar trial's glider. It also never used the serial VD165 until it went to the ATC. BGA400 is fitted with the wings of the radar kite now. My father and myself restored BGA400 in the late 1980's and looked after it until we sold it a few years ago to a group at Haddenham (RAF Thame). The Kite used at Christchurch was built for the RDF trials (radar), this never had a BGA number. It have very few metal fittings. It only had a constrution number. My records are at my fathers at the moment so i cant tell you today. We are restoring 2 other Kite 1's at present. I will get back to you with the construction number. Best wishes Dave Underwood
